The summer wellness series returns from July 6, running weekly in eleven neighborhood parks through the end of August.

Everything is free and nothing requires registration. Turn up.

What is on

  • Walking groups, weekday mornings at 8am, at every site. Two paces, roughly 30 and 50 minutes.
  • Chair exercise, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10am, at seven of the eleven sites.
  • Family movement hour, Saturdays at 9am, aimed at children and whoever brings them.
  • A clinician talk, once a month at each site, on a topic the site's regulars have asked for.

The talks are the part that changed this year. Previously the topics were chosen centrally, which produced a lot of well-attended sessions on sun safety and a lot of empty chairs for everything else. Each site now picks its own, and the three most requested so far have been managing arthritis pain, sleep, and caring for a parent with dementia.

Where

Eleven parks: Sherman, Logan Heights, Ocean Vista, Mission Hills, Balboa Heights, North Park Commons, Cortez Green, Harbor Point, Ridgeway, Palm Vista, and Old Mill.

The full schedule is posted at each park and at every Winterfield clinic reception. Sessions run whatever the weather except in a heat advisory, when morning sessions move an hour earlier and afternoon sessions are canceled.
